What We’re Doing Today
Energy Efficiency
- ✔️ LED lighting installed throughout the hotel, with older systems being phased out and replaced on an ongoing basis
- ✔️ SMARTFLOW water monitoring system in place to track usage, identify inefficiencies, and detect leaks quickly—helping us conserve water and energy
Waste Reduction
- ✔️ Biodegradable pens and pencils used in all meeting rooms and bedrooms
- ✔️ Fully compostable cups provided for takeaway hot drinks
- ✔️ Single-use sauce sachets being phased out across our restaurants
- ✔️ Food waste closely monitored, with regular reviews to identify areas for improvement
- ✔️ Clear and user-friendly recycling systems throughout the hotel to encourage responsible disposal
Bathroom Amenities
- ✔️ Pump dispensers for shampoo and body wash have replaced single-use bottles in all guest bathrooms, significantly reducing plastic waste
Towel Reuse & Community Giving
- ✔️ Guests are invited to reuse their towels, placing them on the floor only when laundering is required
- ✔️ Through our “Save the Clean, Go Green” initiative, every towel reused helps reduce unnecessary laundry—and raises funds for Offaly Hospice, allowing our guests to support a wonderful local cause
Sustainable Sourcing
- ✔️ Local food sourcing prioritised wherever possible, reducing food miles and supporting Irish producers
- ✔️ All tea and coffee served in the hotel is sustainably sourced through a Fairtrade-certified supplier
Employee & Guest Engagement
- ✔️ Bike-to-work scheme available for staff to support low-carbon commuting
- ✔️ Digital key card access for bedrooms and meeting rooms, reducing plastic usage
- ✔️ Two electric vehicle charging points conveniently located in the shopping centre in front of the hotel
Green Certifications & Partnerships
- ✔️ Active participation in the Fáilte Ireland Climate Action Programme, supported by a dedicated sustainability mentor
- ✔️ Collaboration with a leading energy management company, currently undertaking an extensive back-of-house energy refit to improve efficiency
The BH Green Team
Our dedicated BH Green Team, led by our Deputy General Manager, plays a vital role in driving sustainability throughout the hotel. Meeting quarterly, the team reviews progress, measures impact, and explores new ideas to help us continually improve and evolve our environmental practices.
