

Birr Castle & The Great Telescope
Just a short drive from The Bridge House Hotel, Birr Castle is open year-round and offers something for everyone. The beautiful gardens are home to the world’s tallest box hedges and stunning hornbeam pathways. You’ll also find rare plants and over 40 champion trees from the British Isles.
The castle grounds also feature Ireland's Historic Science Centre, showcasing the work of Ireland's early scientists in astronomy and botany. The centre is home to the oldest wrought-iron bridge in Ireland, built in 1820, and the Third Earl’s Great Telescope, which was the largest telescope in the world for over 70 years. The telescope still works today and daily demonstrations are available.

Clonmacnoise
Clonmacnoise, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-visit location. Situated on the banks of the River Shannon, it features a unique collection of Celtic crosses, ancient sculptures, a round tower, and the ruins of medieval churches, all of which make it a fascinating place to explore.
Founded in the mid-6th century, the site was once a major centre of learning and pilgrimage. The original high crosses and grave slabs are displayed in the Visitor Centre. Clonmacnoise is also the burial place of Rory O’Connor, the last High King of Ireland.
The site gained renewed attention when Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass there in 1979. The Bridge House Hotel is located less than 40 minutes away from this historic site, making it the perfect stop on your visit.
Belvedere House, Gardens & Park
Belvedere House is a stunning 160-acre parkland estate located on the shores of Lough Ennell in the Irish Midlands. This beautiful Georgian estate is open year-round and hosts a variety of events, including Narnia at Christmas and family-friendly activities during Easter and Halloween.
The estate features an Animal Sanctuary, Children's Play Area, and a delightful tram that offers guided tours of the park on select days.
The Victorian Walled Garden is a sensory delight, with tumbling herbaceous borders, a rose garden, fragrant herbs, and a vegetable garden. At the end of the garden, you'll find the Enchanted Glen, a hidden Faery Garden.
The landscape is also home to several follies, including Ireland’s largest folly, the Jealous Wall.

Charleville Castle
Charleville Castle is Ireland’s finest example of Gothic Revival architecture. Located in ancient oak woods, once home to Ireland's druids, this stunning castle is considered the masterpiece of architect Francis Johnston, who also designed the famous G.P.O. in Dublin.
Built between 1798 and 1810, the castle is one of County Offaly’s hidden treasures.
Throughout the year, Charleville Castle hosts a range of festivals and events. It has also been featured in several films in recent years.

Emo House & Gardens
Emo House & Gardens is a beautiful neo-classical mansion located in County Laois, just 2.5km from Emo Village. Designed by renowned architect James Gandon, it attracts visitors from all over the country and beyond.
The estate features stunning gardens and parklands first laid out in the 18th century, including formal lawns and a serene lake. Woodland walks are a popular way to explore the grounds.
The house was designed for the Earls of Portarlington in the 1790s, and the gardens remain a peaceful retreat today.
